TAC EUROPE and SAE-UK offer value added services to the
engineering industry.

The recently announced partnership between SAE-UK and TAC Europe is a dynamic one that goes beyond the shared values of professionalism and the goal of being
`technically, the best`. Both organisations have invested in delivering value added services to individual engineers and companies across the mobility industries, according to Derek Reaney, Chairman, SAE-UK, Midlands Centre.

On TAC Europe’s selection as the Official Recruitment Consultants to the 1600+ membership of SAE-UK, Reaney says, “TAC Europe was prepared to invest in an innovative offering to our members”. TAC Europe is providing free 12 month membership to SAE-UK for its contractors once they complete a 13 week qualification period.

A further factor in their selection was TAC Europe’s fit with the SAE-UK’s profile, “Like SAE-UK they provide quality resources to the aerospace as well as the automotive industry. The aim of SAE-UK is to support the mobility industries and particularly to grow its aerospace representation in the UK”.

The partnership with TAC Europe is significant as it offers a high quality and cost effective recruitment service to SAE-UK’s growing corporate membership, which is now approaching 120 companies.

Reaney observes, “TAC Europe is much more than a recruitment consultancy - more of an HR Infrastructure Partner. Through its Management Consulting Services (MCS) division it provides services ranging from pay rate surveys to psychometric analysis and detailed workforce assessments”. An added benefit to companies is a discount on TAC Europe’s usual rate for permanent staff recruitment if they use the service through SAE-UK.

Since SAE-UK completed the merger with the Institute of Vehicle Engineers (IVehE) last year, it is in the process of obtaining licensed membership status with The Engineering Council UK to register engineers. Furthermore, Reaney sees members of other engineering bodies signing up with SAE-UK because they recognise the added value benefits of its professional brand association and its business opportunity activities that include conferences, seminars, technical lectures and premier dinners.

SAE-UK is also making an impact through its investment in the sustained availability of engineering skills for the mobility industries. According to Reaney, “SAE-UK is dedicated to encouraging young engineers into industry – we are going into schools with our `World in Motion Programme` and we are planning a programme with Regional Development Agencies aimed at preparing university graduates for industry.” This programme aims to help redress the loss of apprenticeships and the expertise drain through retirement. Reaney says that one option is to harness retired engineers to mentor young graduates, passing on wisdom and experience on how to engage with the real world of engineering.

MIA’s digital race car seminar.

TAC Europe’s Managing Director, Simon Trippick, was recently invited to give a talk on the “Future of Recruitment in the Motorsport Industry” at the MIA’s Digital Race Car Seminar held at IBM Warwick on 27th July 2005. Other speakers at this well attended event included David Ensor (MIRA), Darren Duddy (IBM) and Chris Aylett (MIA).

The seminar highlighted the latest developments of IT in motorsport and gave an opportunity for the industry to share their experience and current innovation in motorsport, automotive and aerospace technology. Areas covered by the expert panel included technology for development, design, manufacture, and total Product Lifecycle Management of motorsport vehicles and components as well as recruitment strategy.
